About the role

The Bringing Them Home Worker supports Oonah's commitment to self-determination, child safety, inclusion, continuous improvement and respectful service delivery through collaborative and professional practice. The role supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities affected by the impacts of past government policies of forced child removal, family separation, dispossession and intergenerational trauma. The role facilitates healing, strengthens social and emotional wellbeing, supports reconnection to family, Community, Culture and identity, and assists clients to access culturally appropriate services and supports. This position provides trauma-informed, culturally safe case management, advocacy, support, referral and community engagement activities, with a focus on supporting Stolen Generations survivors, their descendants and families. This role is designated at SCHADS Level 4.1, Oonah also provides access to Salary Packaging.

Key responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people impacted by the Stolen Generations and intergenerational trauma

• Conduct assessments to identify client strengths, needs, goals and appropriate supports

• Develop and maintain individual support plans and case management plans

• Provide emotional support, brief interventions, advocacy and referrals to specialised services where required

• Support clients seeking information regarding family tracing, reunification and reconnection to culture, identity and community

• Facilitate access to healing activities, cultural programs, group work and community events

• Develop positive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

• Maintain accurate client files, program data and reporting requirements

• Undertake outreach activities to improve service accessibility for Community members

• Implement age-appropriate, gender-responsive, culturally safe, person-centred and trauma-informed approaches in all client interactions

• Support and uphold the organisation's commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and Community control

• Maintain a culturally safe environment that promotes the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of children and young people

• Comply with the organisation's Child Safety and Wellbeing policies, procedures and Code of Conduct

• Participate in mandatory child safety training and apply learnings in daily practice

• Participate in supervision, performance development processes, team meetings and organisational training requirements

• Actively engage in continuous learning and apply feedback to improve practice

• Work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive, respectful and supportive workplace culture
