Parks Communities Officer

Under the Parks Communities program, we are looking for an experienced and community-focused Parks Communities Officer to join the Parks Branch, reporting directly to the Parks Communities Supervisor. This position plays a vital role in delivering volunteer programs, environmental projects, community events and trail maintenance initiatives that contribute to the protection and enhancement of Logan City's parks and natural areas.

The Parks Branch provides services through two programs, Parks Operations and Maintenance and Park Planning, Design and Capital Delivery, offering a collaborative and innovative work environment that values community partnerships, environmental stewardship and teamwork.

• Contract Term: Temporary Full-Time ending 22 January 2027
• Salary from: Level 3.1 $81,575.44 per annum + Superannuation
• Location: Logan City

The Parks Communities Officer is responsible for delivering and supporting a range of community environmental programs, volunteer initiatives and maintenance projects across Logan City's parks network.

Working closely with volunteers, community groups, contractors, government agencies and key stakeholders, the role focuses on building community capacity, delivering environmental outcomes and maintaining high-quality parks, bushland and trail environments.

Position Responsibilities include:

• Deliver Bushcare, Trailcare and Parkcare volunteer programs and related environmental projects.
• Coordinate community events, environmental education activities and corporate volunteer programs.
• Manage project deliverables within budget and ensure value for money via procurement
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with volunteers, community groups, contractors and partner agencies.
• Facilitate volunteer recruitment, training and capacity-building programs.
• Deliver environmental engagement presentations, workshops and educational activities.
• Plan, schedule and monitor bushland restoration, revegetation, weed control and trail maintenance programs.
• Support the delivery and maintenance of mountain bike trail projects.
• Assess community events in parks, including pre- and post-event site inspections.
• Coordinate and oversee contractor works, ensuring quality outcomes and value for money.
• Maintain accurate project records, GIS mapping data, contractor documentation and reporting.
• Promote and maintain safe work practices in accordance with WHS, Risk Management and Environmental Management requirements.

Key indicators for success:

• Relevant experience delivering environmental, conservation, volunteer or trail maintenance programs within a community-based environment.
• Certificate IV in Conservation and Land Management or other relevant qualification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of volunteer management, event coordination and project planning.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build productive relationships across a diverse range of community and government stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and public presentation skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of Workplace Health and Safety legislation and its practical application.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple programs and projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work collaboratively while achieving outcomes through volunteers, contractors and community groups.
• Current "C" Class Driver Licence.
• Current Construction Industry General Safety Induction (White Card).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Blue Card.
• Ability to participate in an ongoing weekend roster.
• Must be able to pass all required pre-employment checks, including a functional assessment.
