About the role
About Us
At Law in Check, we help people who believe they have been overcharged by their lawyer to understand and challenge their legal fees. We are a growing specialist law firm with expertise in legal costing, working with clients across Australia to provide expert advice and practical solutions that reduce solicitor/client legal fees and achieve fair outcomes.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Lawyer to join our team of 5 on a full-time basis.
The salary range is dependent on experience and qualifications.
About the role:
Preparing originating court documents such as application for costs assessment and summons for taxation;
Analysing opponent's costs agreements and invoices to identify breaches;
Preparing court documents such as notices of objections;
Reviewing files and providing preliminary advice;
Document management (saving matter specific correspondence and documents on LEAP);
Preparing timesheets or billing;
Preparing letters of preliminary advice to new clients;
Filing summons for taxations and costs assessments; and
Court attendances, as required.
About you:
You hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD);
1+ years Post-Qualified Experience is highly regarded but not essential;
Demonstrate a genuine interest in Costs Law;
Possess a solid understanding of the Legal Profession Uniform Law;
Show proven ability managing multiple matters and able to multitask;
Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Highly organised with strong prioritisation and time management skills;
Self-motivated and be able to work as part of a team and autonomously;
Bring experience in achieving favourable outcomes through effective negotiation;
Technology-savvy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
Must be currently admitted to practice as a solicitor in Australia; and
Must have Australian work rights for this position.
