General Hand

Donnelley Hire is a family-owned Earthmoving & Attachment hire business which has been operating in the Illawarra for over 60 years. We are a small team working closely together to provide a superior level of service to our customers, no matter how big or small.

We are looking for a General Hand for our Coniston yard and workshop.This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with plant and equipment, takes pride in keeping the workspace organised and safe, and is comfortable dealing with customers. The role is Monday to Friday with some opportunity for overtime.

You’ll support the day-to-day preparation, inspection, movement and delivery of rental equipment, helping ensure our fleet is ready to go when our customers need it.

What you’ll be doing

• Preparing and completing pre-hire and return inspections on rental equipment

• Carrying out minor maintenance on equipment within your skillset

• Loading and unloading plant and equipment safely and efficiently

• Securing and restraining loads correctly

• Delivering plant and equipment to customer sites and collecting returned equipment

• Fuelling and inspecting plant and vehicles before delivery and after collection

• Keeping the yard clean, tidy, organised and safe

• Reporting equipment, site or customer issues to the Rental Coordinator

• Completing required maintenance and equipment records

• Providing friendly, professional customer service

• Supporting the team as required.

What We're Looking For:

• MR Driver Licence, as a minimum

• Forklift licence

• Safety focus

• Physical fitness

• Good driving record

• Mechanical and spatial ability and a practical, hands-on approach

• Problem-solving skills

• Pride in work quality

• Reliability

• Good verbal communication

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

• Initiative and a willingness to get in and help wherever needed

• Comfort using online timekeeping and other basic recording applications

• Exposure to mobile plant is advantageous.
