About the role
Googong High School will open to year 7 and 8 students in 2027. Situated in the Queanbeyan Network on Ngambri and Ngunnawal Country, the school serves a rapidly growing, highly engaged and aspirational community, with the potential for the school to expand to cater for approximately 2000 students.
The Head Teacher of Mathematics will be the founding member of our interdisciplinary STEM faculty. This faculty will encompass Mathematics, Science and STEM and be led by a team of Head Teachers who will work collaboratively to lead the operational, curriculum and personnel needs of a large, dynamic group of teachers. Whilst this role is for Mathematics, the position will take a key point in leading interdisciplinary programs within the faculty and wider school.
The Head Teacher Mathematics will commence in term 4 to support the challenging yet rewarding work of establishing a new school. During this time, the successful applicant will be involved in responsibilities such as refining the school’s curriculum design, preparing to support incoming teachers and assisting in the operational set up of the school.
Googong High School is being designed around an exciting and innovative curriculum structure that is founded in Learning Sciences. As a new school with the opportunity to establish a dynamic and contemporary culture, the school is building a learning design that reflects a broad research base in effective and modern teaching practices. Head Teachers of curriculum will play a unique role in establishing this vision, with a particular focus on developing approaches to learning that maximise student learning outcomes and prepare them for a rapidly changing world.

General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Capacity to lead the implementation of a high-impact, innovative STEM curriculum that delivers strong educational outcomes for students of all abilities and year groups.
Proven strategic leadership capacity, with the ability to plan for and meet the needs of a faculty during a time of rapid growth and expansion.
Exemplary personal, interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to work effectively as part of a team focused on shared practice.
Proven instructional leadership skills, with the capacity of developing the capacity of other staff to deliver quality teaching practice to all students.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
