Sales Applications Engineer – Vehicle Electrical Systems

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and technically minded Sales Applications Engineer specialising in vehicle electrical systems and CAN bus technology. This role combines strong automotive electrical knowledge with commercial and customer-facing skills. You will work closely with customers to understand their vehicle integration requirements, develop appropriate technical solutions, and support the sales process from initial enquiry through to implementation.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable discussing vehicle electrical architecture, CAN bus communications, ECU integration and programming with engineers and technicians, while also being able to translate complex technical requirements into practical commercial solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with Truck, Bus, Construction and Agricultural vehicles with OEM, Engineering and Integration customers.

• Identify customer requirements and recommend suitable vehicle electrical and CAN bus solutions.

• Provide technical sales support for vehicle electrical products, electronic control systems, CAN interfaces and vehicle integration solutions.

• Analyse vehicle electrical systems, wiring architectures and CAN bus networks to determine compatibility and integration requirements.

• Assist customers with CAN bus configuration, message interpretation, signal mapping and system integration.

• Support CAN bus programming, configuration and troubleshooting activities.

• Interpret CAN messages, signals, Ids, data bytes, scaling and communication requirements.

• Work with engineering and product teams to develop customised solutions where standard products do not meet customer requirements.

• Prepare technical proposals, quotations, demonstrations and presentations.

• Assist with product demonstrations and technical discussions with customers.

About you

• Proven experience in automotive electrical systems, vehicle electronics or automotive engineering.

• Strong practical understanding of CAN bus and CAN-based vehicle communications.

• Experience with CAN bus analysis, diagnostics and troubleshooting.

• Understanding of CAN frames, arbitration Ids, data payloads, bit-level signals, scaling and signal decoding.

• Experience with CAN bus tools such as CAN analysers, data loggers or vehicle diagnostic equipment.

• Ability to read and understand automotive wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.

• Understanding of vehicle power supplies, grounding, relays, fuses, sensors, actuators and electronic control modules.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical customers.

• Consultative selling and solution-based sales skills.
