Project Engineer - Water Research Laboratory (Manly Vale, NSW)

• Employment Type: Full Time, Fixed Term for 2 years (35-hour week)
• Remuneration Level 5: $92,265 - $104,401 + 17% Superannuation (Level 6 remuneration for the right candidate: $108,021 - $115,233 + 17% Superannuation)
• Location: Manly Vale, NSW (the successful candidate will be required to work Full Time on site at Manly Vale)

Why The Role Matters:

The Project Engineer will work within the Water Research Laboratory Projects Team on a wide range of industry projects and applied research. The Project Engineer reports to the Director of Industry Research, Water Research Laboratory, and has no direct reports. The Water Research Laboratory at Manly Vale is a world-leading academic research and consulting laboratory that endeavours to tackle the most challenging and pressing water-engineering problems faced by the world today relating to water and the environment. Accountabilities:

Level 5:

• Assist projects within the WRL areas of expertise through the application of professional technical knowledge, experience and skills under the direction of WRL project managers.
• Apply professional graduate knowledge and skills to projects within the WRL areas of expertise.
• Maintain the high standard of WRL technical advice, report quality, financial performance and client satisfaction on all projects assigned by the WRL Manager.
• Write and contribute to reporting of WRL project activities.
• Develop professional expertise whilst undertaking project work.

Level 6 (in addition to the above):

• Undertake tasks with a greater degree of independence.
• Solve problems by analysing information where considerable interpretation of existing information, policies or procedures is required. Some discretion to innovate within own function and take responsibility for outcomes.
• Set priorities, manage and monitor work flows and systems within your area of responsibility.
• Co-supervise and assist in the training other staff at WRL.

Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

Level 5:

• A relevant degree in Engineering or Science.
• Ability to work in a high-volume team environment.
• Effective time management skills.
• Demonstrated background in an area of water engineering which may include water resources, groundwater, coastal engineering, environmental science or numerical modelling areas.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

Level 6 (in addition to the above):

• Demonstrate ability to work independently and be responsible for working to budgets and timeframes on activities and projects.
• A demonstrable track record of project work experience on a professional engineering team in a relevant water discipline.
• Completion of a recognised project management course or demonstrable equivalent relevant project management experience.

Progression statement:

The incumbent will normally be expected to have reached the top step of level 5 prior to progression to level 6. Criteria for progression to level 6 will be based on satisfactory performance of all duties and accountabilities at level 5 and a demonstrated capacity to take on the duties and accountabilities of the position at level 6, and the availability of and need for the work to be carried out at a higher level in the work unit.
