About the role

MacKillop Catholic College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Dance Teacher to join our vibrant secondary education community in Palmerston, NT. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in fostering creativity, physical wellbeing, and artistic expression amongst our students. As a Dance Teacher, you will inspire young people to develop their passion for dance whilst building their confidence, discipline, and performance skills. This role is central to our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that nurtures the whole student.

What you'll be doing

• Plan and deliver engaging dance lessons across various year levels and abilities, incorporating contemporary, traditional, and culturally significant dance forms

• Develop and implement comprehensive dance curricula aligned with secondary education standards and learning outcomes

• Assess student progress through practical demonstrations, choreography projects, and performance-based activities

• Choreograph and direct dance performances for school productions, cultural events, and community celebrations

• Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students feel encouraged to participate and explore their creative potential

• Collaborate with other staff members to integrate dance into broader school initiatives and interdisciplinary projects

• Manage dance studio facilities, equipment, and resources effectively

• Provide guidance and mentorship to students interested in pursuing dance further or participating in extra-curricular dance groups

• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements

• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student development and participation

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Dance, Dance Education, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional qualifications in dance

• Current TRB registration

• Demonstrated experience teaching dance to secondary-aged students in a school setting

• Strong knowledge of various dance styles and contemporary dance practices

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate diverse learners

• Proficiency in choreography and dance performance

• Sound understanding of secondary curriculum frameworks and learning outcomes in arts education

• First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain this)

• Working with Children Check (or eligibility to obtain one)
