About the Role

Join our Family Services team as a Child & Family Practitioner, working across our Inner City locations. We are recruiting for two positions – one full-time (1.0 FTE) and one part-time (0.8 FTE).

Reporting to the Team Leader, Family Services – Inner City, you will deliver high-quality prevention and early intervention services to children, young people, and families experiencing vulnerability or showing early signs of, or at risk of developing, mental health concerns.

Using a whole-of-family approach, you will provide case work, counselling, outreach support, and therapeutic and educational group programs to strengthen protective factors and support positive outcomes for children, young people, and their families.

Duties

• Provide centre-based and outreach support that reduces risk and strengthens protective factors for children, young people, and families.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments of family-based risk and protective factors associated with child and family wellbeing.
• Deliver evidence-informed prevention and early intervention strategies using a holistic, family-centred approach.
• Manage a varied caseload of up to 20 case files, ranging from brief to intensive support, alongside group programs and seminars.
• Facilitate therapeutic and educational groups, seminars, and community education.
• Develop and deliver training and build collaborative relationships with community members, partner organisations, and the broader sector.

Skills & Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related discipline.
• Experience working within the mental health, family services, or community services sectors.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of therapeutic approaches for individuals, couples, children, young people, and families.
• Strong assessment, counselling, case management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, caseloads, and deadlines while maintaining professional boundaries, self-awareness, and high-quality client outcomes.
• Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with diverse children, young people, families, and communities, with a flexible, creative, and client-focused approach.
• A current Victorian Driver’s Licence, or a demonstrated commitment to obtaining one, is strongly preferred due to the outreach nature of the role.
