About Us

Children by Choice is a key advocacy group recognised nationally and internationally for our reproductive and sexual health work. We offer Queensland-wide counselling, deliver educational sessions, and train healthcare professionals. We also advocate for policy improvements to enhance reproductive health access.

You’ll help strategically guide our organisation, where we provide comprehensive counselling, information, and education on all pregnancy options, including abortion, adoption, and parenting.

This role will allow you to give back meaningfully to the community by focusing in on reproductive justice and gender equality. It's also a great role to develop organisational management skills or share your extensive experience and networks to really make a difference.

It is a genuine requirement of this position that the Management Committee Board member is a woman as per the exemption granted to Children by Choice by the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. [Children by Choice Association Inc. is exempt from the operations of sections 14, 15, 15A, 124, and 127 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 in relation to attribute in s 7(a).]

Skills and Expertise

We seek candidates with experience in:

• Financial and Risk Management

• HR/Organisational Management (NFP organisations)
• Communications/Marketing/Fundraising/Creativity
• Social Work / Community Work / Campaign and Advocacy
• Audit/Compliance/ Governance / Law
• Lived experience, in particular we welcome applicants who are First Nations, LGBTQIA+, young people, and/or live with a disability.

Organisational Environment - Our elected Management Committee governs and advises on strategic matters, meeting monthly, with sub-committees every 1-2 months.

Role and Responsibilities

As a member, you will:

• Consider, debate, and vote on issues.
• Comply with organisational rules and policies.
• Undertake induction and training.
• Review strategic plans and financial systems.
• Attend meetings and contribute to discussions.
• Promote the organisation and participate in fundraising.
• Collaborate with team members to foster a positive culture.
• Operate within a feminist framework.
• Stay informed on best practices and participate in skill development.
