Leading hand carpenter

About the role

Modern Era Building is a QBCC-licensed building company delivering high-end residential renovations and new builds across the Gold Coast, with the occasional commercial fitout. We’re after a leading hand carpenter who can take a section of a job and run it — set out, sequence, deliver — without being babysat.

You’ll work directly with the owner (a carpenter by trade) and an established crew on quality renovation projects from Currumbin to Yatala. This is hands-on, on-the-tools work with genuine responsibility: reading plans, coordinating with other trades, keeping your section moving and to standard.

Weeks run a minimum of 40 hours, up to 60 when the program demands it. If you’re chasing 20 hours a week, this isn’t the role.

Pay: $70–80/hr + GST (ABN contractor) or $52–57/hr + super (full-time wages) — negotiable on experience. Extras discussed once we’ve had time on site together. If you’re an asset, you’ll be rewarded.

Key responsibilities

• Run your section of high-end renovation jobs from set-out to completion

• Lead and sequence your own work — framing, fix-out, decks, cladding, structural work

• Problem-solve on site and flag issues before they become expensive

• Coordinate with other trades and keep quality where it needs to be on high-end work

• Work to the program and communicate honestly about progress

• Solid renovation experience — you’ve worked in occupied homes, dealt with the unknowns behind old walls, and know reno carpentry is a different game to cookie-cutter new builds

• Current trade qualification and driver’s licence

• Reliable transport and a full kit — ideally a trailer setup with air tools and everything required of a fit-out carpenter, not a carpenter carrying labourer’s tools.

• Able to lead, work independently, and back your own decisions

• Genuine appetite for work and pride in your finish

• White card; own PPE
