About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Dispensary Technician/Pharmacy Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis at our Wahroonga pharmacy location. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our dispensary operations whilst providing direct support to our patients and pharmacy staff. As a Dispensary Technician/PA, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient preparation and distribution of medications, whilst maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and patient care. This is a hands-on role that combines both technical pharmacy responsibilities with direct patient interaction in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key responsibilities
Accurately dispensing medications under the supervision of registered pharmacists, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
Receiving and processing prescription orders, checking for completeness and accuracy before dispensing
Organising, labelling and packaging medications safely and clearly for patient collection
Managing inventory control, stock rotation and pharmacy storage to ensure optimal organisation and compliance with storage standards
Providing welcoming and professional patient interactions, including handling enquiries and cash transactions at the dispensary counter
Supporting the pharmacist with medication counselling and patient education where appropriate
Maintaining detailed and accurate pharmacy records, including prescription documentation and patient information
Cleaning, sanitising and maintaining dispensary equipment and work areas to the highest hygiene standards
Contributing to the smooth running of the pharmacy by assisting with general administrative tasks and stock replenishment
Staying up to date with pharmacy protocols and best practice standards
What we're looking for
Completion of a recognised Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Assistant qualification (such as Certificate III in Pharmacy Technician or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical products, their uses, side effects and interactions
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when handling medications and processing prescriptions
Excellent numeracy and literacy skills with the ability to follow complex instructions
Sound understanding of legal, ethical and regulatory requirements in pharmacy practice
Proficiency with pharmacy management software and computer systems
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, healthcare professionals and colleagues
Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment, prioritising multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
Commitment to patient confidentiality and maintaining high standards of professionalism
Previous experience in a community pharmacy setting is highly desirable
