About the role
You will serve as an expert health information resource, fostering strong partnerships and effective communication between clinicians and coding teams across the Medical, Surgical and Critical Care Divisions. Through the development, implementation and evaluation of targeted documentation education initiatives, you will enhance clinician understanding of clinical coding and its impact on revenue optimisation, data quality and patient care outcomes. By promoting high-quality clinical documentation and accurate clinical data capture, you will support coding accuracy, Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) optimisation and Activity Based Funding (ABF) outcomes and ensuring reliable information for patient care.
About The Role
In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:
Actively participate in clinical liaison activities, strategies and innovation across all hospital divisions to improve clinical documentation practices that support clinical coding quality and accurate DRG assignment.Provide expert information and education to clinicians regarding documentation requirements for accurate clinical coding of diagnoses, procedures, co-morbidities, complications and how these influence DRG allocation, activity and acuity across the hospital. This will take place in the form of presentations to, and meetings with, clinicians of all levels and disciplines.Undertake coding quality assurance activities and audits to identify opportunities for improvements to monitor and maintain coding quality. This will involve a wide range of coding audits across all CHQ divisions and specialty services, including targeted DRG and complexity audits.Review current clinical documentation and collaborate with clinicians to ensure the documentation is optimised for coding abstraction. Communicate recommendations for improvement and methods to ensure sustainability for the introduced changes.Liaise with the Clinical Coding Manager on coding-related improvements and strategies and provide education to coding staff.Analyse and reconcile coded information using appropriate tools and resources to ensure data integrity.Proactively maintain a high level of knowledge of ICD-10-AM, ACHI, ACS, and AR-DRG, including state and national coding advice updates, with a thorough understanding of the impacts these have on ABF within CHQ HHS.
