Role Description The Pottery Instructor is a contract, on-site role based in Box Hill, VIC. The instructor will plan and deliver pottery classes for beginners and intermediate learners, including demonstrations of hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and finishing techniques. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing materials and tools, setting up and cleaning the studio space, guiding participants through projects, and providing individualized feedback and safety instructions. The role also involves maintaining kilns and equipment, monitoring classroom health and safety practices, and contributing ideas for new workshops or curriculum improvements.
Qualifications
Strong practical skills in pottery and ceramics, including familiarity with studio tools and processes.Proficiency in wheel throwing and hand-building techniques, with the ability to demonstrate and adapt methods for different skill levels.Experience with glazing, surface decoration, and kiln firing procedures.Teaching or instructional experience, with the ability to communicate clearly, manage groups, and support diverse learners.Commitment to studio safety, including proper handling of materials, tools, and kilns.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and inclusive approach to participants.Organizational skills for planning lessons, managing class time, and maintaining a clean, functional studio environment.Previous experience in an art, craft, or community education setting is beneficial; relevant qualifications in art, ceramics, or education are an advantage.
