Senior Payroll Officer

The City of Kalamunda is looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join our People & Culture team. This is a hands-on senior payroll role with responsibility for the accurate and timely delivery of the City’s end-to-end payroll function. You will work across the organisation, providing payroll advice and support to employees and leaders while ensuring our payroll practices remain accurate, compliant and efficient.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator People & Culture, you will play a key role in managing the City’s fortnightly payroll and maintaining the integrity of our payroll systems and records.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing end-to-end fortnightly payroll processing accurately and on time
• Maintaining payroll system integrity and accurate employee records
• Providing advice on payroll matters, including legislation, Awards, Industrial Agreements, policies and employment contracts
• Processing termination payments, leave entitlements, superannuation and other payroll transactions
• Undertaking payroll audits, exception reporting and reconciliations
• Supporting end-of-financial-year and end-of-tax-year reporting and compliance
• Responding to internal and external audit requirements
• Managing payroll-related transactions including novated leases and long service leave records
• Reviewing payroll processes and systems to identify opportunities for greater efficiency
• Providing training and support to employees and payroll backup/relief resources.

About You

We are looking for someone who knows payroll beyond simply processing a pay run.

You will bring:

• Strong knowledge of payroll and accounting procedures and practices
• Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll and compliance reporting
• The ability to interpret Awards, Industrial Agreements, legislation and employment conditions
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Confidence providing payroll advice to employees and leaders across all levels of an organisation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Well-developed Microsoft Office and payroll/financial management system skills, with TechOne experience highly regarded
• A relevant qualification or progression towards one and/or a minimum of five years' payroll experience.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated sound knowledge of payroll/accounting procedures and policies.
2. Experience in end to end payroll functions and compliance reporting.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate and liaise with external agencies and stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated effective communications skills enabling payroll information to be understood by all levels across the City, from front line employees to the CEO.
5. A sound level of understanding of Local Government functions including ability to interpret the City’s Industrial Agreements.
6. High quality and accurate presentation of advice both verbal and written, via all standard forms of business communication.
7. Well-developed Microsoft Office and payroll/financial management system skills, with TechOne experience highly regarded.
8. Excellent and accurate data entry skills.

Hours of Work

This is a permanent full-time position working Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight. Flexible work options are available, including a 9-day fortnight or flexitime.

About the Benefits

The salary range for this position is $102,391 - $108,637 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) plus superannuation. Other inclusions are annual increments, annual salary increases, a generous superannuation co-contribution scheme and 22 days annual leave which attracts 17.5% loading. We also offer flexible work arrangements or the option for a rostered day off fortnightly or monthly.
