Primary objective
The role contributes to the research, development and maintenance of policy doctrine including facilitating local level emergency
planning and providing accurate specialist advice to local controllers. This role is required to work in close collaboration with
government agencies, non-government organisations and community stakeholders.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Facilitate the development, review and maintenance of evidence-based NTG local emergency management plans and hazard
management plans for the NT Emergency Service.
2. Provide guidance on and undertake emergency management planning activities in accordance with evidence-based knowledge,
research and policy frameworks.
3. Develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders within the NT emergency
management sector and community stakeholders.
4. Provide emergency management and operational advice as a member of the Hazard Management Authority for cyclone, flood,
severe storm, tsunami and earthquake.
5. Work in an emergency operational environment as on call Territory Duty Officer or within an Incident Management Team.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience working in an emergency management or related environment, with an understanding of
contemporary risk and planning principles and frameworks.
2. Experience researching, developing and exercising emergency management plans or similar, with a sound ability to format
word and excel documents.
3. Proven ability to negotiate, influence, and communicate with a range of diverse stakeholders including people from a diverse
culture.
4. Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.
5. Sound knowledge of the NT Emergency Management Arrangements.
6. Demonstrated understanding of the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS) principles and processes.
7. The ability to work in remote areas and after hours as required and hold a current NT “C” class driver’s licence, or the ability
to obtain.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in emergency management or a related discipline, or relevant industry experience.
2. Detailed knowledge and understanding of the legislation and policy frameworks applicable to NT emergency management.
3. Level 1 qualifications in the AIIMS.
