The opportunityASIO is seeking to fill several Trades positions, which support a range of essential services that enable ASIO to deliver on its mission. Our Trades experts apply their specialist skills to allow for proactive and preventive maintenance of ASIO’s headquarters, the Ben Chifley Building. You will use your trade and professional skills to help ensure ASIO’s accommodation is sustainable, secure, and fit for purpose.
ASIO values practical skills and experiences just as highly as formal qualifications and likewise values both breadth and depth of trade knowledge. We provide specialist training to our staff to equip them for the ASIO environment.
A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months
The key duties of the position include:We are looking for a range of professionals including but not limited to:
Corporate trades
· Plumbers
· HVAC Specialists
· Fire Services Technicians
· Mechanical Engineer
· Mechanical Control Specialists
· Fitter/Turners
· Electricians
· Architects
· Draftsperson
· Maintenance Planner
· Digital Printer
EligibilityWe are seeking candidates with the following capabilities:
· Be licensed without restriction (or able to obtain) to practice your trade in the ACT.
· If a license is not required to practice, demonstrated training or experience in the field.
· Demonstrate sound judgement, including an ability to prioritise and multitask.
· Work as part of a close-knit team of trades specialists, including assisting other trades and functions as required.
· Demonstrate a customer-focused approach to your work.
In addition to the above, at the SIE(E) 1 (APS5) level you will:
· Have some post apprenticeship/training experience in your trade (or multiple trades).
In addition to the above, at the SIE(E) 2 (APS6) level you will:
· Have multiple years of experience in your trade (or multiple trades).
· Provide mentoring to less experienced trades and supervise other trades professionals.
· Provide superior technical expertise to ensure future plans are sound.
In addition to the above, at the SIE(E) 3 (EL1) level you will:
· Ensure the team’s smooth day-to-day operations to meet ASIO’s requirements.
· Be a highly experienced expert in your trade (and/or experienced in multiple trades).
· Have experience providing mentoring to junior and other trades professionals.
· Confidently provide detailed subject matter expertise and advice to management.
· Identify and suggest improvements and strategic change for consideration by management.
· Provide technical support to compliance and other executive/strategic reporting as required.

NotesASIO provides a number of benefits to its staff including:
· A competitive salary, including a Weighted Average Shift Penalty of 38.95 per cent.
· A 7.5 per cent service allowance for maintaining a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access security clearance.

LocationThese positions are located in Canberra and applicants must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is provided to successful candidates where ASIO requires you to relocate.

Employment conditionsEmployment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
