Laundry Seamstress/ Attendant (Casual)

Founded in 1881 by the Marist Brothers, St Joseph’s College is a boarding and day secondary boys’ school, whose Catholic identity is shaped by Marist spirituality and traditions. Governed by Marist Schools Australia, the College enrolment is approximately 1,100 students. 

St Joseph’s College Laundry, located at Buffalo Road, Ryde operates a laundry that services the needs of many of the private boarding schools in Sydney.

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Laundry Seamstress/laundry attendant to join our team during school term periods, with the possibility of further employment during non-term times, depending on workload.

This dual-role position combines garment alterations and repairs with the day-to-day operation of the school laundry. The successful applicant will typically spend one day per week undertaking seamstress duties and 2-3 days per week assisting with laundry operations.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Alter, repairs, and mend school uniforms and other garments.

·       Maintain a high standard of workmanship and an organised sewing workplace.

·       Fold, iron, pack and prepare garments for distribution.

·       Assist with the daily operation of the laundry and other garment-related duties.

·       Communicate effectively with staff and complete work within required timeframes.

Qualifications and Skills:

·       A current Working with Children Check

·       Experience in garment alterations and repairs.

·       Strong attention to detail and time management skills.

·       The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·       Good communication skills and a reliable, flexible approach.
