About the role

The AOD Clinical Nurse Consultant is a valued member of the Addiction Medicine team and will provide leadership, exceptional clinical care and support for this valuable service as well as direct clinical care to patients within the Hub and across The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The Hub provides a space where a multidisciplinary team can offer specialised short-term care to patients who present to ED requiring clinical and social support for high prevalence, low acuity Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug conditions.

This autonomous and rewarding role combines advanced clinical practice, care coordination, leadership and quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes and shape the future of Addiction Medicine.

Key Accountabilities

• Facilitate MDT meetings, clinical reviews, supervision, mentoring, effective practice, professional development, and any other relevant mechanism to ensure best care is provided.
• Undertake key clinical components across the spectrum of AOD presentations, including screening; assessment; identification, planning and commencement of appropriate treatment for patients in the ED/Hub setting; linkage into appropriate community and/or hospital-based addiction treatment services.
• Participate in AOD education to patients, careers and staff across The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
• Participate in non-clinical duties such as attendance to any relevant committees, working groups and policy development.

About You

• Experience in the field of Addiction Medicine or Mental Health Nursing.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and care coordination skills.
• Understand the issues related to marginalised groups and be committed to working with these groups
• Knowledge of the biopsychosocial effects of substance use and poor mental health and its impact on individuals, families and significant others and the community

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualifications in Mental health nursing or a related specialty.
• Post graduate AOD qualifications or have completed AOD core competencies
• Experience in quality improvement, research and clinical governance activities.
