Experienced Automotive Fitter & Turner / Labourer

About the role

M&S Drive Shafts is seeking an Experienced Automotive Fitter & Turner / Labourer to join our team in Sunshine North, VIC. This is a contract position that plays a vital role in our manufacturing and automotive services operations. As a Fitter & Turner / Automotive Labourer, you will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and machining automotive components with precision and expertise. Your work will directly contribute to the quality and reliability of our drive shaft products and services, making this a strategically important position within our production facility.

Key responsibilities

• Manufacturing, assembling and fitting the industrial, agricultural, marine and automotive drive shafts/propshafts (tailshafts) components and related parts with accuracy and attention to detail

• Operating and maintaining turning machinery and other specialised manufacturing equipment

• Machining components to precise specifications using lathes, mills, and other machine tools

• Performing quality checks on finished components to ensure they meet industry standards and customer requirements

• Preparing and organising work areas, tools, and materials for efficient production

• Following technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions accurately

• Maintaining a safe and clean working environment in accordance with health and safety regulations

• Supporting the wider production team to meet delivery deadlines and production targets

• Troubleshooting and reporting equipment issues to supervisors and maintenance teams

What we're looking for

• Proven experience working as an fitter and turner or in a similar machining and fitting role within the automotive or manufacturing industry

• Strong proficiency in operating turning equipment, lathes, mills, forklifts and other relevant machine tools

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately

• Sound knowledge of fitting techniques, assembly procedures, and quality control standards

• Competency in measuring and using precision measuring instruments such as micrometres, callipers, and gauges

• A solid understanding of health and safety practices within a manufacturing environment

• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

• Relevant qualifications or certifications in machining, fitting, or automotive trades are advantageous

• Experience with drive shaft manufacturing or automotive components is highly desirable
