About the role

We’re seeking a Senior Back-End Developer to join our Data Platform team.

A Senior Back-End Developer specialises in the creation, enhancement, and maintenance of a coordinated suite of microservices, applications, and APIs for Transmax’s ITS products that equip our customers with the capabilities they need to achieve community outcomes. As part of an empowered, agile product team, they consistently deliver high-quality, reliable, and performant applications.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Data Platform Engineering Lead, you’ll contribute to the success of Transmax’s Delivery group by:

• Applying effective software development practices and techniques to design, develop, test, and maintain the STREAMS Data Platform, and its components and applications.

• Delivering high-quality software development documentation to support customer and organisational objectives.

• Providing guidance, coaching, and support to more junior software developers to uplift capability across the team.

• Working collaboratively with colleagues across Transmax to continuously improve processes, delivery tools, and STREAMS product knowledge.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for a technically capable, customer-focused Senior Back-End Developer with strong communication skills, an analytical mindset, technical leadership experience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You’ll also bring:

• Tertiary qualification in Software Engineering, Information Technology, or Computer Science (or equivalent, proven experience)

• At least 5 years’ experience working in a cloud-native platform engineering and software product environment that utilises Scrum and DevOps/SRE practices

• Proficiency in developing microservices, components, and APIs using a range of languages and technologies including C#/.NET, containerisation (Docker or Kubernetes), in-memory databases (Redis), message queues (RabbitMQ), and related technologies.

• Competency with relational (e.g. PostgreSQL) and non-relational (e.g. Elasticsearch) database technologies and query syntax, and optimisation of query performance

• Proficiency in supporting contemporary automated testing techniques, frameworks, and technologies such as SpecFlow

• Experience with data networking, internet protocols, and application interface technologies such as REST, gRPC, AMQP, JSON, XML and Protobuf

• Experience with source code control, artefact repositories, and CI/CD pipeline technologies, including tools such as GitLab and Artifactory

• Comfort working in both Windows and Linux environments, and with utilising public cloud infrastructure and services, including Amazon Web Services (AWS)

• Capable with knowledge and workflow management using Confluence and Jira (Desirable)

• Familiar with observability technologies such as Prometheus and Grafana (Desirable)
