Senior Biosecurity Officer

This is an exciting opportunity for a biosecurity professional to take a leading role in managing invasive species projects, supporting compliance activities and working closely with landholders, government agencies and industry stakeholders to deliver impactful biosecurity outcomes.

About the Role

As a Senior Biosecurity Officer, you will deliver and coordinate a range of animal and plant biosecurity programs, compliance activities and emergency management functions that support regional and state biosecurity priorities. You'll work across a diverse landscape, helping prevent, detect and respond to biosecurity threats while building the capability of stakeholders and team members alike.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the delivery of invasive species and biosecurity projects across the region.
• Managing surveillance, monitoring and investigation activities to identify and respond to emerging biosecurity threats.
• Facilitating regional pest animal groups throughout southern Greater Sydney to support coordinated pest management outcomes.
• Providing mentoring, guidance and leadership to junior members of the Invasive Species Team.
• Managing funded invasive species projects, including feral deer control and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) programs.
• Undertaking contractor management and auditing activities to ensure quality project delivery.
• Supporting compliance programs, including firearms inspections, maintenance and associated monitoring activities.
• Building strong relationships with landholders, community groups, industry, local government and government partners.
• Supporting emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities across the region.

About You

You're an experienced biosecurity professional who enjoys leading projects, mentoring others and working collaboratively with landholders, industry and government stakeholders to address complex biosecurity challenges. You bring strong operational experience, sound judgement and a commitment to delivering practical outcomes for communities and the environment. You actively contribute to a positive workplace culture by supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative, respectful and inclusive team environment.

You will bring:

• Experience delivering biosecurity, invasive species, agricultural, environmental or natural resource management programs.
• A positive and collaborative approach that strengthens team dynamics, supports colleagues and contributes to a respectful, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.
• Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience coaching, mentoring or leading staff and contractors.
• Knowledge of compliance, legislative and operational requirements relevant to biosecurity management.
• Experience coordinating invasive species projects, facilitating stakeholder groups and driving project outcomes.
• A customer-focused, collaborative approach and the ability to work across a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Appropriate qualifications relevant to pesticide application.
• Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or the ability to obtain.
• Capacity to hold a firearms licence and relevant firearm competency qualifications.
• A current NSW Class C Driver Licence and willingness to travel.
