About the role
Surf Toyota is known for delivering exceptional customer experiences and building long-term relationships within our community. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join our leadership team and help drive the financial performance of our dealership.
Reporting directly to the Dealer Principal, the Financial Controller will oversee all aspects of the dealership's financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an experienced automotive finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparing accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reports
Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Managing the day-to-day operations of the accounts and finance team
Ensuring compliance with statutory, taxation, and manufacturer reporting requirements
Monitoring departmental performance (new/used vehicle sales, service, parts) against KPIs
Liaising with the Dealer Principal and department managers to drive profitability
Managing floorplan financing, reconciliations, and stock control processes
Overseeing payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger integrity
Supporting audits and liaising with external accountants and auditors
Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, controls, and processes
Proven experience as a Financial Controller, ideally within the automotive dealership industry
Sound knowledge of dealership management systems (e.g. Tune/Revolution, ERA-Power, or similar)
CA/CPA qualification (or working towards) highly regarded
Strong understanding of floorplan financing and dealership stock control
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a small finance team
High attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data for non-finance stakeholders
A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work autonomously
