Data plays a critical role in how Lake Macquarie City Council plans, delivers and improves services for our community.
We are seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst to develop and deliver reporting, dashboarding and analytics solutions that support operational and strategic decision-making across Council.
Working within our Data and Analytics Team, you will work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, translate requirements into practical reporting solutions, and develop trusted Power BI dashboards and data models that deliver meaningful insights.
You'll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining reporting solutions using Power BI, SQL and other analytics tools, ensuring data is accessible, reliable and supports informed decision-making.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across a wide range of business areas, helping teams use data more effectively while contributing to the ongoing maturity of Council's data and analytics capability. This role will primarily focus on business intelligence, reporting and stakeholder engagement, with exposure to broader analytics and emerging technologies where appropriate.
This exciting role will:
Developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards, reports and semantic models
Working with stakeholders to gather, analyse and document reporting requirements
Translating business needs into practical reporting and analytics solutions
Creating clear and compelling data visualisations that support decision-making
Developing and optimising SQL queries and data models
Troubleshooting reporting and data quality issues
Supporting the ongoing improvement of reporting standards, governance and data quality
Providing advice and support to business users on reporting and analytics solutions
Contributing to the continuous improvement of Council's analytics capability

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU
You are an experienced business intelligence professional who enjoys working with stakeholders to understand business challenges and develop practical reporting solutions.
You combine strong technical skills with a customer-focused approach and are comfortable translating complex data into meaningful insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
You enjoy working collaboratively, solving problems and delivering high-quality reporting solutions that help drive informed decision-making.
You will bring:
Degree qualification in Information Technology, Data Analytics, Business Analytics or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Demonstrated experience developing Power BI dashboards, reports and data models
Strong SQL and data analysis skills
Experience gathering and documenting business requirements
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Experience delivering reporting and analytics solutions in a business environment
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Platform or Python will be highly regarded

This position provides:
Competitive salary from $105,134 to $122, 182 per year + 12% superannuation
Enterprise Agreement pay increases apply
Commencing salary set in line with skills and experience with annual reviews available to support movement through the salary range
35-hour working week, across a nine day fortnight
