Civmec Defence Industries (CDI) is a proven national delivery partner for the construction, maintenance and sustainment of maritime assets, supporting Australia’s sovereign defence and shipbuilding capability. Operating from our purpose-built waterfront shipbuilding facility at Henderson, WA, our skilled team delivers complex naval programs with a focus on quality, security and schedule assurance.

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our Commercial team, with a focus on subcontractor management. Working closely with the project team, you will own the reconciliation, forecasting and payment processes across our subcontract packages, ensuring subcontractor accounts are accurate, current and well controlled.

The Role

• Support the Commercial team in the financial management and commercial administration of subcontract packages across the project lifecycle.
• Reconcile subcontract agreements against approved budgets and forecast costs, ensuring alignment between contracted values, variations, commitments and project forecasts.
• Prepare and coordinate subcontract cost forecasts, accruals and variance analysis, working closely with the project team to maintain forecast accuracy and cost control.
• Process and validate subcontractor payment claims, facilitating timely and accurate payments in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Monitor subcontract cost performance, commitments, variations and actual costs, providing monthly reporting and highlighting emerging risks, trends and forecast impacts.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of subcontract agreements, claims, commitments, payments and financial transactions.
• Liaise with subcontractors and internal stakeholders to resolve payment, cost and account queries promptly and professionally.
• Monitor committed and open subcontract purchase orders and ensure timely close-out in accordance with project and financial governance requirements.
• Support Commercial Managers and Project Managers with financial reporting, cost analysis and commercial insights to assist project decision-making.
• Support project audit readiness and financial compliance activities, ensuring adherence to Civmec governance requirements, contractual obligations and Defence project controls.

About You

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

• Australian Citizenship, with eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government national security clearance
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• CPA/CA qualified or working towards (desirable but not essential)
• Experience in a project-based environment (construction, engineering, shipbuilding or defence) highly regarded
• Exposure to subcontract administration, progress claims or contract reconciliation highly regarded
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• High attention to detail and proven organisational and time management skills
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced working environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Due to the security requirements of this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold an Australian Government national security clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
