About the role
About the role
Have you been running your own business or are you just ready to get off the tools?
Barefoot Build is looking for a construction supervisor to join our small but growing team in a varied role combining site assessments, estimating, project coordination and project delivery.
The position is highly varied and sometimes mobile, with a significant part of your week spent travelling between prospective projects, active construction sites, suppliers and subcontractors across Melbourne.
We are ideally looking for a qualified carpenter or someone with a strong practical construction background who understands how buildings go together, can walk onto a site and assess what is required, and is looking to progress into a broader construction management and estimating role.
You don't necessarily need to be an experienced estimator. For the right person with strong construction knowledge, organization and communication skills, we can develop the estimating and commercial side of the role.
Duties & Key responsibilities
Attending prospective projects to inspect and assess proposed works
Reporting back to the project manager or Coordinator
Measuring, photographing and documenting existing site conditions
Helping Develop scopes of works and determining construction requirements
Identifying labour, materials, equipment and subcontractors required to complete works
Assisting with estimating, take-offs, supplier pricing and preparation of quotations
Reviewing architectural and construction drawings
Assisting and meeting with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
Attending active projects to inspect progress and workmanship
Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and construction activities
Assisting with programming, procurement and project planning
Identifying variations and additional works
Troubleshooting construction issues on site
Managing smaller projects from commencement through to completion
Assisting the Project manager and coordinator with the delivery of larger projects where required
Ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
There may occasionally be situations where your practical carpentry skills are useful on site, however this is not primarily an on-the-tools carpentry position.
What we're looking for
This role would particularly suit an experienced Carpenter, Leading Hand, Working Foreman or Construction Supervisor who is ready to take the next step in their career.
Trade qualification in Carpentry or significant equivalent construction experience
Strong practical knowledge of building and construction
Ability to inspect a site and determine what is required to complete the works
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
Good understanding of construction sequencing and different trades
Strong problem-solving skills
Good communication and people skills
Confidence dealing with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
Good organisation and time-management skills
Basic computer skills and willingness to learn our estimating and project management systems
Current Victorian driver's licence
Previous estimating, project management or supervisory experience would be highly regarded but is not essential for the right person.
What we offer
Immediate start
Competitive salary
Fully maintained company vehicle + Fuel card
Laptop
Full-time permanent position
Variety of projects across Melbourne
Combination of site-based and office-based work
Ongoing training and professional development
Opportunity to develop estimating and project management skills
Genuine opportunity to progress within the business
Autonomy and responsibility as your experience in the role develops
