About the role

An exciting opportunity is available to join our Waste and Resource Recovery team as a Waste and Litter Response Officer.

This hands-on and rewarding role is responsible for delivering waste and litter collection services across the municipality, helping to maintain clean, safe and welcoming public spaces for the community. You will undertake a variety of operational activities including dumped rubbish collection, litter collection, litter bin maintenance and operating Council’s waste compactor vehicle.

Working in a dynamic outdoor environment, you will play a key role in supporting Council’s waste and resource recovery while delivering high-quality customer service and contributing to the continuous improvement of waste and litter services. The role also involves the safe operation of plant and equipment, responding to customer requests, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with Council's safety and operational procedures.

The role involves:

• Undertaking dumped waste and litter collection across public open spaces, reserves and activity centres.
• Operating waste compactor truck and other Council plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintaining, repairing and installing Council litter bins and associated infrastructure.
• Disposing of collected material at designated landfill, resource recovery facilities and waste bays.
• Utilising mobile devices and software systems to manage customer requests, record activities and update work orders.
• Completing inspections, risk assessments and pre-start checks.
• This is a role that combines plant operation, maintenance, field-based work and customer service, providing an opportunity to directly contribute to the cleanliness, safety and presentation of public spaces across Manningham.

Skills and experience

• Medium Rigid (MR) Driver Licence (mandatory).
• Experience in waste, litter collection, municipal maintenance, resource recovery or similar operational services
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate and undertake basic maintenance of heavy vehicles, plant and equipment, including waste compaction truck.
• Experience planning, organising and prioritising daily work activities with minimal supervision.
• Ability to use mobile technology, tablets and software systems to manage customer requests and maintain accurate records.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety and safe work practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the public, contractors and colleagues.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience in Waste Management, White Card, Traffic Control Training and Manual Handling Training are desirable.
