Nursery Team Member – Production / Propagation / Dispatch
About Us
Rumbalara Nursery is a family owned and operated wholesale seedling nursery at the Glass House Mountains, Sunshine Coast.
We are seeking an additional nursery team member to help us grow our friendly, though fast-paced nursery.
There is potential to develop the role into a part-time or full-time position for the right person/s.
The Position
You will be working with a friendly and effective team in an outdoor, all-weather environment helping us to grow and distribute seedlings to independent nurseries throughout Queensland.
Nursery experience is welcome, but it isn't essential. We're happy to train the right person if you have a good attitude, are willing to learn and take pride in doing a job properly.
The exact mix of duties can be flexible depending on the skills and experience you bring. You may work across production, propagation, plant care, dispatch or general maintenance duties.
The Role
Tasks the role may include:
· Selecting and preparing plants for despatch or customer orders
· Moving & spacing plant stock
· Assisting with loading/unloading nursery vehicles or trolleys
· Propagating plants via cutting, seeding, or pricking
· Recording and interpreting basic data related to work tasks
· Operating propagation equipment, e.g., potting or seeding machine, tray washer, soil mixer etc
· Operation of skid steer, forklift or other nursery vehicles (if qualified)
· Trimming, weeding, maintaining, fertilising and watering seedlings and potted plants
· Maintaining a safe and tidy nursery
· Assisting with general maintenance, e.g., whipper-snipping, irrigation, spraying (if qualified).
About You
Essential Qualities for the applicant:
· Physically fit and able… we are always moving -- lifting, pushing, bending, walking and reaching is required.
· Be comfortable working in all weather conditions
· Integrity, honesty, and respectfulness
· Good communication skills
· Ability to follow instructions and operational manuals and procedures
· Highly motivated to work efficiently and safely independently or in small work teams
· Have pride in your work and attention to detail
· Ability to work in a safe and respectful manner in accordance with our OH&S and HR policies and procedures, and in compliance with Government codes and legislation
· Reliable, and able to commit to shifts ranging between Mon – Thursday (some Fridays), with hours ranging between 5:30am – 2:00pm (Spring/Summer) & 6:00am – 2:30pm (Autumn/Winter).
· The legal right to work and live in Australia is essential.
Desirable (though not essential) skills
Please list these or other relevant skills (but do not be deterred if you do not have them):
· Wholesale or production nurseries
· Horticulture or plant production
· Propagation from cuttings or seed
· Potting, transplanting or plant care
· Picking, packing, quality control or dispatch
· Nursery machinery or production equipment
· Irrigation, maintenance or practical/mechanical work
· Chemical application or ChemCert
· Forklift operation
· MR/HR truck driving
· Farming, manufacturing, warehousing or another fast-paced production environment.
Nursery experience is welcome, though not essential. We’re happy to train the right person. What matters most to us is reliability, a good attitude, attention to detail, willingness to learn and being able to work well as part of a team.
Payment
Payment terms and conditions will be guided by the Nursery Award (MA000033) and NES (e.g., Adult casual from $32.18 p/hr (Grade 1A)) or more, depending on your relevant experience and task undertaken.
