About the role 

Shape the future of Australia’s energy markets. As a Senior Energy Reform Analyst in AEMO’s Markets Reform & Strategy team you’ll lead complex analysis and contribute to the design and delivery of major market reform initiatives across the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Working with industry, government, consumer groups and internal stakeholders, you’ll provide evidence-based insights, assess market and operational impacts, and help develop reforms that support a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy future.  You’ll manage projects, influence key decisions, engage with stakeholders, and contribute to innovative solutions that drive meaningful industry change.

What you will be doing

• Lead small or components of complex regulatory and market reform design, development and insight project workstreams, including identifying materiality and opportunities, developing options, assessing market and operational implications, and ensuring reforms that are technically robust and aligned with AEMO’s strategic reform objectives.
• Apply strategic thinking and critical analysis to complex regulatory, policy and market design problems, synthesising information from multiple sources and developing evidence-based recommendations that inform reform direction.
• Engage collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, support consultation processes and forums, and communicate technical and regulatory issues clearly to support executive decision-making and effective reform outcomes.
• Undertake information and data-driven analysis across reform workstreams, interpreting trends and translating findings into recommendations, briefing material, submissions and reports.
• Manage components of complex projects or small reform workstreams by coordinating activities, monitoring progress, managing risks and dependencies, and delivering outputs to agreed quality, timeframe and stakeholder expectations.
• Interpret and apply compliance and governance requirements across reform workstreams, including identifying new or changing obligations and explaining implications to team members and stakeholders.

What you will bring to the role 

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant qualification in economics, engineering, science, law, commerce, finance, computing or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated understanding of wholesale energy markets, reform processes, regulatory frameworks and emerging sector trends, with the ability to apply sector knowledge to analysis and reform initiatives.
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving capability – able to independently analyse complex regulatory and market issues, synthesise information from multiple sources, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
• Effective stakeholder engagement, collaboration and influencing skills – experience working across internal teams, government, regulators, market bodies and industry stakeholders while building credibility and trust.
• Collaborative team mindset – able to work effectively in a small team across a broad portfolio, contribute flexibly where priorities shift, and support colleagues to deliver shared outcomes.
