About the role
Number of Positions Available: 1 ABOUT US The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.
It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity. Why this role matters
The Salvation Army (Salvos) Doorways model of care provides holistic financial support to individuals and families seeking short-term financial assistance and ongoing financial management support. Through our Christmas Cheer program, we help families who are doing it tough experience the joy of Christmas — helping put gifts under the tree, smiles on children’s faces and hope back into homes. We’re looking for someone who wants to make a genuine difference in their local community and help bring the spirit of Christmas to families who need it most.
About the role We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Community Worker to manage the Christmas Cheer Response in the local area. Reporting to the Doorways Regional Manager, this is a casual position based in Mount Druitt, NSW.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 3. This role is casual, average of 3 days per week from September to February. How you will make an impact Encourage, motivate and support Corps and Community
Members to participate in the social and physical activities within the program. Coordinate and support volunteers and staff involved in the Christmas Cheer Program. Be a key point of connection between the local PR team and Corps.
Apply asset-based community development (ABCD) strategies to create and implement meaningful community initiatives. Build strong local networks that encourage participation and connect people with facilities, services and opportunities within their community. Help create an environment where people feel welcomed, included and empowered to make a difference.
What you will bring A Certificate IV in Community Services. A current NSW Employee Working with Children Check.
A current NSW Driver’s Licence. Experience establishing and developing collaborative networks and partnerships with internal partners and external organisations. Experience in customer service or community services.
Demonstrated ability to manage time, set priorities, plan and organise tasks, work independently when required, and contribute positively as part of a team. Self-motivation, initiative and a strong work ethic. Sound written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect positively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Strong people-management skills, particularly in supporting volunteers and community members. Most importantly, a genuine desire to serve others and help create positive change in the community. What we offer
As a registered NFP, we offer our eligible employees real and meaningful benefits, including: Financial discounts and benefits. A purpose-driven career where your work creates positive social and sustainable outcomes. Employee Assistance Program — an independent and confidential counselling service.
Opportunities for career development and growth. An inclusive culture of dedicated, passionate and professional team members. The opportunity to positively support and impact the lives of others through your work.
How to apply What if this Christmas, you could help make a family's Christmas feel a little brighter? If you are compassionate, community-minded and passionate about helping people through challenging times, this could be the opportunity you have been looking for.
If you have the passion and drive to commit yourself to a challenging, meaningful and rewarding role, we invite you to apply via the link and submit a current CV and cover letter outlining how your experience and values align with the essential requirements of the role.
