About the role
Lead the next stage of growth for a leading North Queensland roofing business
Port City Roofing is an established and growing North Queensland roofing business with a strong local reputation, multiple field crews and an expanding operating platform. As the business grows in scale, we are creating a clear separation between technical leadership and general management and are seeking a commercially strong General Manager to lead the business day to day.
This is not a role for the person who wants to be the best roofer in the business. We already have experienced technical leadership across estimating, quality assurance and field delivery. We are looking for the person who can run the business.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Board / Chair, you will take full responsibility for operational and commercial performance – from lead through to cash. You will lead a management team spanning estimating and QA, office administration, two roofing crews and a dedicated edge protection function.
Own the P&L, budgets, forecasts, cash performance and management reporting
Lead workforce planning, recruitment, performance management and team development
Own the forward works program, crew capacity, scheduling priorities and operational cadence
Drive sales follow-up, quote conversion and customer outcomes
Lead WHS culture, compliance and risk management across the business
Build scalable systems, processes and management capability as PCR grows
About you
Your qualification matters less to us than what you have actually done. You may have come through a trade, engineering, construction management, accounting, commercial or other professional pathway. What matters is that you have become a strong operator in an industrial manufacturing, construction or field-based business.
Proven leadership in construction, trades, civil, building services or a similar multi-crew environment
Genuine P&L ownership and strong commercial / financial acumen
Hands-on experience with workforce planning, recruitment, HR and performance management
Strong operating discipline: pipeline, WIP, scheduling, job costing, capacity planning and management reporting
Confidence leading experienced supervisors and tradespeople without needing to be the senior technical expert yourself
Sound WHS and construction-sector risk awareness
Ability to move comfortably between the office, job sites, customers, suppliers and Board-level reporting
The profile that could work particularly well
This opportunity may suit an experienced Operations Manager, Branch Manager, Construction Manager or Business Unit Manager who has already been running a substantial field operation and is ready to step into a genuine General Manager role. Equally, an established GM from a related engineering, manufacturing, construction or trade-services business would be highly relevant.
