About the role
About the role
Lead Coach is not just a title above Coach. It is the coach others turn to. You will take on a group of existing members from day one and grow your book from there. You will have a room of members in front of you and every one of them is on a different program. One chasing a HYROX time, one 6 weeks post-injury, one who has not trained in 4 years and is quietly terrified. Different personalities, different moods, all at once, all needing something slightly different from you. You should be able to walk into the room and own it. Light it up with your energy, and dim it when the room needs that instead. Some sessions need noise. Some need a quiet word with the person who has had a rough week and does not want a fuss made.
Key responsibilities
Coaching on the floor, managing a room of members on individual programs at once
Bringing in new members through outreach, referrals and follow-up
Building your own social media presence and following
Developing the coaches around you, our members, and our interns
Holding members accountable both in and outside the gym
Member management
Building and developing education material for the coaching team
About you
Certificate IV in Fitness, or Certificate III with serious coaching experience behind it
Current first aid and CPR
Able to coach a room of members on individual programs at once without the room going flat
Comfortable with a wide range of personalities, and able to read what each one needs from you
Willing to have the hard conversations. The member who has gone quiet. The one not progressing. The one thinking about leaving
Able to hold your own deadlines without being chased
Availability Monday to Friday afternoons and evenings, plus Saturday mornings on a rotating roster when required
Occasional other shifts due to sickness/holidays
You know your craft well enough that a tricky member, an unfamiliar injury or a session that is not working does not rattle you
You want to be better in 12 months than you are now, and you do something about it rather than waiting to be sent on a course
Benefits
$34 per hour base, above award
Monthly commission on the members you manage, up to $1,200 a month
12% super on both base and commission
Standard penalties, including holidays
Ongoing development, both in-house and externally
Insurance covered, both professional indemnity and public liability
A system that already works. Programming, check-in framework, member software, all built
Another coach alongside you on the busier shifts
About us
One Life Fitness is a coaching gym in Yangebup, and we exist to change the way people experience fitness. Walk into most gyms and you will find a room full of people who are not really progressing. Unsure what they are doing, uncomfortable being there, guessing their way through it. We fix that by having a coach on the floor almost all day, every day. Every member has their own program and a check-in every month. Nobody trains here unsupported.
We strive to do things differently.
Hours, pay and growth
The hours: predominantly weekday afternoons and evenings, with Saturday mornings on a rotating roster when required. Permanent part time, not casual. If those times do not work for you, this is not the right job.
20 guaranteed hours a week, with around 20-25 typically rostered. You will take on existing members from day one, and commission grows with your own book from there.
If full time is your end game, we offer pathways to get there. Growth here is merit based and we reward the coaches who go the extra mile. The role carries a standing expectation of 20 membership points, measured on a rolling 3 month average. New Leads ramp toward it rather than start there, with 15 points by month 3 and 22 by month 6, and it is a KPI we review like any other.
When you apply, tell us about a member you nearly lost and what you did about it.
