An exciting opportunity to join the team in the Intensive Care Unit at the Northern Beaches Hospital.
The SRMO will manage a wide range of clinical presentations in adults including acute coronary syndromes, acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, pulmonary oedema, pulmonary embolus and post-operative patients including cardiothoracic and neurosurgical procedures.
The Intensive care unit is accredited for foundation training with the college of Intensive Care Medicine.
Northern Beaches Hospital
Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs, extensive digital imaging / diagnostic facilities, medical centre collocated with ED, state of the art education and interactive SIM centre and a Helipad for Emergency Transport.
The Northern Beaches Hospital provides a high standard of education and training, with dedicated supervisors, teachers and a JMO Unit that supports all activities related to rostering, training, education and welfare of junior doctors.
Accredited for foundation training with the college of Intensive Care Medicine - this will allow appointees to complete their six months of foundation training to allow registration with the college of Intensive Care Medicine.
On level 4 of the 9-storey hospital is the Education Centre where doctors can access a range of facilities. These include the latest technology for teaching, simulation and presentations, plus various meeting rooms and conference areas.
There is capability to stream education sessions to/from other facilities, as well as within the hospital for the simulation rooms and theatres.
What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the position is to manage patients requiring intensive care, those at risk of clinical deterioration requiring intensive care, plus pre- and post-intensive care evaluation, as directed and overseen by supervising consultants; while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.
Critically ill patients include patients with life-threatening single and multiple organ system failure, those at risk of clinical deterioration as well as those requiring resuscitation and/or management in an intensive care unit.
Trainees in unaccredited positions in the Intensive Care Department work under supervision, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat the disturbances associated with severe medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric illness and the conditions that cause them. This may include management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside the intensive care unit as well as the intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients.
NBH intensive care unit is accredited for foundation training with the college of intensive care medicine and for intensive care accredited training with the college of emergency medicine
