About the role
**Applications without a cover letter addressing the questions below will not be accepted. AI cover letters are discouraged; we want to hear from you!**
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and values-driven House Manager to lead a Supported Independent Living (SIL) home supporting two young men in their early twenties with non-verbal Level 3 autism. This is a full-time rol, comprising 3 days (24 hours/week) in an admin and leadership capacity, and 2 days (14 hours/week) of direct support (floor) shifts with the residents. The role is suited to someone dynamic and hands-on, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred supports grounded in active support principles.
The House Manager we are seeking works with people, not for them. They demonstrate a strong commitment to Active Support, ensuring shifts are focused on meaningful engagement with participants rather than task completion alone. They will ensure the people they support are actively involved throughout each shift in purposeful, capacity-building activities that build independence and develop skills. The House Manager actively challenges task-driven practices and prioritises participant engagement over rushing routines for staff convenience. A strong emphasis is placed on autonomy, informed choice-making, and predictability, so residents understand what is happening, feel safe, and experience a genuine sense of control over their daily lives.
Both residents are highly active and thrive with structured, engaging routines and meaningful community participation. This home operates under a family-governed model, meaning parents and house operators are closely and consistently involved in key decisions affecting the home. Working closely with parents and house operators, the House Manager will play a key leadership role in facilitating access to community settings, supporting engagement in day programs, and ensuring all supports align with each participant’s NDIS goals, preferences, and individual support plans. You will lead by example to create a vibrant, respectful, and safe home environment, while collaborating with families, behaviour support practitioners, and allied health professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
The successful candidate will bring experience supporting individuals with complex support needs and demonstrate confidence in applying proactive strategies that promote consistency, safety, and positive outcomes for both participants and staff.
