Job Overview:
XCMG Mining Equipment Australia is seeking an experienced High Voltage Electrical Technician to join an embedded site support team maintaining a fleet of XC9260 electric drive wheel loaders at a Tier 1 iron ore operation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The XC9260 is a 26 tonne class production loader driven by four independently controlled electric wheel motors, so this role centers on the high voltage traction drive system – power conversion equipment, motors, HV cabling and control – alongside conventional machine electrical work.
This is a permanent full-time, site-based position on a 2/2 FIFO roster from Perth, working as part of a small XCMG crew embedded within the customer’s maintenance environment. The successful candidate will hold a current WA electrical license and HV switching authorization, will work autonomously under the customer’s electrical safety rules, and will be the on-site authority for all electrical work performed on the fleet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform scheduled electrical servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance on the XC9260 electric drive wheel loader fleet in accordance with XCMG maintenance schedules.
Fault find, diagnose and repair the high voltage traction drive system, including power conversion equipment, wheel motors, HV cabling, connectors and associated control circuits.
Carry out HV isolation, testing for dead, earthing and access control in accordance with the machine’s high voltage procedures and the site’s electrical safety rules.
Complete component change-outs on electrical and electric drive assemblies, and support mechanical change-outs where electrical disconnection and reconnection is required.
Perform periodic statutory electrical testing and inspections, including insulation resistance and earth continuity testing, and maintain the associated records.
Diagnose and repair low voltage machine electrical systems – control systems, sensors, machine monitoring, lighting, fire suppression interfaces and cab electrics.
Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and service bulletins, and carry out factory-directed electrical modifications and field campaigns.
Work alongside the site Heavy Duty Fitter on combined electrical and mechanical fault finding and return-to-service testing.
Work under the customer’s site safety and electrical management systems – inductions, isolations, permits and JHAs – and comply with XCMG HSEC requirements at all times.
Complete field service reports, test records, component histories and warranty documentation accurately and on time.
Deliver electrical familiarization, high voltage awareness and maintenance training to XCMG personnel and, where required, to customer personnel.
Provide feedback on electrical product performance, repeat failures and improvement opportunities to XCMG product support and the factory.
Represent XCMG professionally on site and build long-term working relationships with the customer’s maintenance, electrical and operations personnel.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as an HV Electrical Technician within the heavy mining equipment industry, with a minimum of 3 years’ high voltage electrical experience on mobile mining equipment.
Demonstrated experience on electric drive or trolley-assist mobile plant – electric drive loaders, dozers or haul trucks – is highly regarded.
Competent in high voltage isolation, testing for dead, earthing and permit-to-work processes on mobile plant.
Competent in electrical fault finding, diagnosis, repair, component replacement and return-to-service testing.
Competent in periodic statutory electrical testing, inspection and documentation.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
Familiarity with safety standards, isolation and lockout/tagout procedures and hazard identification, and with working under a mine site permit system.
Proven ability to work unsupervised in a remote site environment and make sound decisions without immediate supervision.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under production pressure.
Strong communication, teamwork and customer service skills, with the ability to build long-term relationships in an embedded customer environment.
Willing and able to commit to a 2/2 FIFO roster.
Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident with full work rights in Australia.
Certificates required:
Current WA Electrical Mechanic License
High Voltage (HV) switching certification / authorization
Current Australian driver’s license (WA preferred)
Current First Aid & CPR / LVR certification
National Police Clearance
Forklift ticket
Working at Heights
WA general mining induction (MARCSTA or equivalent) – desirable
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License (ARC ticket) – desirable, not essential
All certificates must be current and valid.
Additional Information:
• Site based in the Pilbara region of Western Australia on a 2/2 FIFO roster (two weeks on, two weeks off), 12-hour shifts with day and night rotation as required by site operations. Perth is the point of hire.
• The position is embedded within the customer’s operation. The successful candidate will work daily inside the customer’s maintenance, safety and permit systems and must obtain and maintain all required site inductions and access approvals.
• Continuous coverage of the 2/2 cycle requires a back-to-back pair. This application covers one position; a second is required to complete the coverage cycle.
• The scope of work, shift pattern and crewing are set under a customer support agreement and may be varied by agreement with the customer.
• A pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening and a fitness-for-work assessment, is required.
• Ongoing development is supported through XCMG factory technical training in China.
• No visa sponsorship is available – full Australian work rights are required.
