Financial Accountant

The position:

Reporting to the Group Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant ensures the accuracy of the Catholic Education Office's daily financial transactions. The role maintains the integrity of the general ledger through timely bank reconciliations and precise processing of banking receipts in Technology One (TechOne), and manages outgoing vendor payments (AP) and incoming customer collections (AR).

Key responsibilities:

As Financial Accountant, you will:

• Download, review and reconcile daily bank statements and transactional reports across all bank accounts.
• Process approved cash receipts, cheques and electronic transfers in TechOne, and prepare weekly cash requirements schedules.
• Verify, code and process vendor invoices and employee expense claims, matching invoices to purchase orders and ensuring timely payment.
• Act as the primary contact for vendors, resolving billing discrepancies and payment inquiries.
• Generate customer invoices, process incoming payments, and follow up on overdue accounts and collection disputes.
• Prepare month-end journals, accrual spreadsheets and reconciliations, ensuring banking, AP and AR sub-ledgers are balanced.
• Reconcile inter-entity balances monthly, working proactively with School Finance Officers to resolve discrepancies before month-end close.
• Maintain the asset register, including acquisitions, disposals and depreciation.
• Prepare and lodge GST returns and other regulatory reports (e.g. ABS) on time.
• Support the finance team in preparing financial records for audit.

About you:

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a qualification in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
• Has comprehensive knowledge and experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and accounting reconciliations.
• Communicates professionally and confidently with vendors and clients.
• Has excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Can maintain effective operational standards across a multi-site enterprise.
• Demonstrates strong conceptual and analytical skills.
• Understands and supports the ethos of Catholic education.
• Holds, or is willing to obtain, an NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

Desirable: 

• Not-for-profit experience and/or experience using Technology One.
