About the Opportunity
The Cancer Data Collections Specialist - PRMS will support the implementation and ongoing optimal use of the Patient Reported Measures (PRMs) system across public oncology services. The role will provide end-to-end system testing and subject matter expertise on system integration and support the capture and quality.

The role will also support other clinical data collections including Radiotherapy, Systemic Therapy, Patient Reported Measures, Clinical Trials, Pathology, Radiology and Cancer Notifications. Working with hospitals, pathology providers, radiology providers, treatment facilities, private clinics and other external partners to ensure the Cancer Institute NSW receives complete, accurate and timely cancer data. The role establishes and maintains data supply arrangements, defines data requirements and standards, and supports organisations to submit high-quality data to meet their legislative requirements.

This role involves collaborating with internal teams, health services, vendors and external stakeholders, the role resolves data and system issues, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports the expansion and ongoing development of clinical data collections. The role helps ensure cancer data is reliable, fit for purpose and available to support cancer monitoring, reporting, planning and service improvement across NSW.

Essential Criteria

• Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Data Management or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated relevant professional experience and training.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in information management principles, including information standards, data collection, data quality, testing, auditing and reporting.
• Experience supporting clinical information systems and electronic data collection processes within a healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated experience with HL7 message translation, SQL and the development of audit, monitoring and reporting tools to support data quality and data submissions, including dashboards (e.g. Power BI or similar) and relevant testing processes

Pre-Screening Questions
 

1. Describe a project where you implemented or enhanced a clinical data feed using HL7 messaging, ideally involving pathology, radiology, oncology or another complex clinical dataset. How did you determine requirements for structured data elements, ensure usability of narrative report content, and validate the quality and completeness of the resulting data collection? What tools did you use or develop to assure quality or increase monitoring efficiency?

2. Provide an example of when you worked with clinicians, health services, executive stakeholders or reporting agencies to define a minimum dataset for statewide or organisation-wide reporting. How did you determine data requirements, manage competing stakeholder requests, and ensure the dataset met both operational and reporting needs?
3. Cancer notifications require accurate identification of diagnosis, staging and treatment information from clinical reports. Describe your experience working with oncology, radiology or cancer registry data. How have you used structured and unstructured clinical information to derive meaningful cancer data, and what challenges did you encounter in ensuring accuracy and consistency?
