Minor Works Foreperson

About the role 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Minor Works Foreperson to join our Civil Construction team and lead the Minor Works Construction Crew.

As our new Minor Works Foreperson, you won't just oversee projects, you'll lead from the front and play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure for our community.

This is a hands-on position where you'll be out on site each day, coordinating works, providing clear direction, and working closely alongside our Civil Construction team to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Your leadership will directly influence team performance, site culture, and the quality of delivery.

You'll be responsible for supervising, guiding and working alongside an internal civil crew across a diverse range of renewal and maintenance works, including:

• Drainage renewal and upgrades
• Minor concrete works
• Retaining wall renewal and upgrades
• Pavement construction and reinstatement
• Earthworks and site preparation
• Road and park furniture installation 
• Other minor civil infrastructure projects

You will report directly to the Team Leader Civil Construction, lead the Minor Works Crew, and work collaboratively with the broader Civil Construction and associated teams to ensure coordinated and efficient project delivery.

This is a full-time permanent role based at the Knox City Council Operations Centre.

This is a Band 5 classified role. Remuneration will be $83,593 to $97,258 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee. 

What you will bring to this role  

The key selection criteria for this role are: 

• Extensive experience in the delivery of a wide variety of civil construction projects (drainage, footpath renewal, pavement construction, retaining walls, earthworks, fencing and other minor civil construction related tasks) including task allocation and supervision of construction personnel.
• Demonstrated experience performing general labouring duties to facilitate the renewal and rehabilitation of community assets.
• Demonstrated experience in municipal construction supervision and a good knowledge of civil engineering operations including concreting, earthmoving plant and equipment, asphalt laying, drainage works and retaining structures.
• A high degree of interpersonal skills.
• The ability and willingness to teach in the areas applicable to this position.
• The ability to analyse problems and make informed decisions on day-to-day basis.
• Ability to provide sketches and perform calculations for the purposes of accurately delivering civil construction projects (i.e. setting out, working out grade lines, ordering materials, etc.)
• Achieve results through efficient use of resources and a commitment to quality outcomes.
