Visual Arts Assistant - Commencing Term 1, 2027

As part of our ongoing investment in the Visual Arts, we are excited to introduce the newly created position of Visual Arts Assistant, commencing in Term 1, 2027.

This hands-on role will support the delivery of our Visual Arts program through the preparation of materials and resources, assistance with practical lessons, maintenance of specialist equipment and workspaces, and the presentation of student artwork and exhibitions. Working closely with the Head of Visual Arts and Visual Arts teachers, the successful applicant will play an important role in creating engaging and inspiring learning experiences for students.

The successful applicant will be highly organised, proactive and passionate about supporting creativity within an educational setting. They will take pride in creating well-resourced learning spaces that enable students and teachers to produce their best work.

This is a newly created Permanent Full-Time (Averaged), term-time position commencing in Term 1, 2027.

As part of our commitment to providing outstanding learning experiences in the creative arts, the Visual Arts Assistant will support the day-to-day operation of the Visual Arts Department and contribute to the successful delivery of practical learning experiences across the College.

The successful applicant will prepare and organise materials and equipment for lessons and units of work, assist with the setup and pack-down of practical classes, support Junior Visual Arts lessons and maintain safe, organised and well-resourced learning spaces. They will work closely with teachers to ensure students have access to the materials, tools and resources required to maximise their creativity and artistic development.

The role also involves managing inventory, monitoring stock levels, coordinating orders, maintaining specialist equipment and supporting the display and exhibition of student work throughout the year. The successful applicant will contribute to the creation of professional exhibition spaces and assist in showcasing the artistic achievements of students across the College community.

This position is ideally suited to someone who enjoys working in a dynamic educational environment, has strong organisational skills and is passionate about supporting teaching, learning and creativity.

Essential Criteria

• A working understanding of, and commitment to, the Catholic ethos of a School in the Edmund Rice tradition.
• Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.
• Experience working in a Visual Arts, educational, creative industries or related environment.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage materials, equipment and inventory effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain safe and organised workspaces.
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing deadlines.
• Sound computer literacy and administrative skills.
• A current Working with Children Check Clearance

Highly Desirable

• Qualifications or experience in Visual Arts, Design, Education, Museum Studies or a related field.
• Experience supporting practical art programs, studios or exhibition spaces.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements relating to art materials and equipment.
• Experience managing stock control, procurement and supplier relationships.
• An interest in supporting student creativity and artistic development.
