Machine Operators / Sports Field Construction Operators

Victorian Sports Group is seeking motivated and dependable Machine Operator / Sports Field Construction Labourers for an immediate start.  If you enjoy working outdoors, being part of a team, and contributing to high-profile sports projects, this could be the job for you!

We specialise in the construction, renovation and maintenance of high-quality natural grass and synthetic sports fields, including soccer pitches, AFL fields, baseball fields, running tracks, tennis & netball courts.

Based in Doreen, our team delivers sports facilities for local councils, schools, and sporting clubs across Melbourne and Regional Victoria.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the construction, grading, and installation of natural turf and synthetic sports fields and sports surfaces.

• Operate or assist with machinery such as excavators, tractors, skid steers, rollers, compactors, and trenchers

• Laser levelling using specialised laser scoops and guidance systems

• Assist in the installation of drainage systems, irrigation components, and base materials

• Subgrade preparation including trimming, levelling, and compaction

• Installation of stormwater drainage, trenching, and pit works

• Retaining wall construction

• Follow construction plans and supervisor instructions accurately

• Maintain plant and equipment to high operational standards

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment adhering to health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times

• Travel to various project sites as required

Qualifications, Experience & Attributes

• Minimum 3-5+ years of machinery operation experience required

• Valid tickets and demonstrated experience for operating Skid Steers, Excavators and Rollers.

• Experience operating tractors an advantage.

• Construction Induction Card (White Card)

• Working With Children Check (WWC)

• Current manual driver’s licence (A current heavy/medium truck license would also be advantageous)

• Strong understanding of laser levelling and finished surface tolerances

• Ability to follow plans, levels, and instructions accurately

• Reliable, punctual and organised with clear communication skills

• Capable of working both autonomously and within a crew

• Strong safety record and practical, safety-first approach

• Flexibility to work early starts, extended hours or weekends when projects require
