The Student Support Directorate is seeking a Specialist Teacher to join our team on a permanent full-time basis!
Applications are invited from outstanding educators to apply for the position of Specialist Teacher, as a valued member of the Behaviour Support and MLZ team, which sits within the Student Support Directorate. This position will be 2 days a week at MLZ at Rooty Hill (Aengus Kavanagh Centre) and the other 3 days will be determined by need anywhere across the Parramatta Catholic Diocese.
The role of the Specialist Teacher - Behaviour Support Team & MLZ is to build the capacity of teachers in the management of the behavioural needs of identified students, through supporting students to learn the proactive strategies identified in their behaviour plans.
Marist Learning Zone - Mount Druitt MLZ provides an alternative, high-support learning environment for students in CSPD schools supporting them with their wellbeing or attendance. The purpose of the MLZ program is to provide:
An alternative education pathway offering CSPD students who require higher levels of support to connect or reconnect with learning, the workforce or with other relevant educational opportunities
A program for students who have disengaged from participating in formal learning environments and which offers them an opportunity to re engage with learning in an educational setting
Social-emotional learning and life skills.
Work with the school team to build their capacity (including classroom teacher and Leadership Team) and CSPD specialist teams to implement recommendations from the tier 3 behaviour support plan/ risk management plan.
Initially, provide 1:1 support for students displaying complex and challenging behaviour within the school environment, with a view of working towards gradual release. Through building the capacity of the teaching staff to manage behaviours. This work will also include working with small cohorts of students.
Involvement in the review of the behaviour support plan with school team and CSPD Behaviour team personnel.
The successful candidate will be expected to work school hours, as well as provide 1:1 supervision to allocated students during recess and lunch breaks, as per the behaviour support plan. Attendance at weekly team meetings with the Behaviour team, as well as attend school staff meetings/ briefings is also an expectation of the role.
