About the role
St Andrew's is seeking an experienced and reliable Grounds and Maintenance Officer to join our maintenance team, supporting our Retirement Living and Residential Aged Care Facilities, on a part-time, 6-month fixed-term contract.
Reporting to the Retirement Living Maintenance Manager, you will primarily be based at our Retirement Villages in Ballina, with travel to our Residential Aged Care facilities in Ballina and Byron Bay as required.
You'll be responsible for carrying out gardening, grounds and general property maintenance tasks to a high standard.
This is a 6 month fixed-term contract offering 33 hours per week, with the potential to lead to a full-time role for the right candidate.
Perform routine grounds and lawn maintenance across the retirement village outdoor areas
Maintain internal common areas to ensure cleanliness and safety for residents
Carry out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs, including plumbing, as needed
Complete unit/room repairs such as patching gyprock, painting walls, fitting door handles, and minor plumbing repairs
Complete work orders and respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly and efficiently
Promptly address identified repair needs to support the safety, comfort, and well-being of residents
To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following:
A relevant trade qualification or licence (e.g. plumbing) is preferred but not essential
Light Rigid (LR) licence and/or (Medium Rigid (MR) licence is an advantage but not essential
Basic knowledge of gardening, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repair work
Proven experience as a groundsman, handyman, maintenance worker, or in a similar role
A team player who can self-manage, show initiative, and adapt to changing priorities in a busy environment
Strong communication and negotiation skills (written and verbal), including liaising with residents, contractors and suppliers
A mature, respectful, and compassionate attitude
Willingness to travel to other sites as required by operational needs of the organisation
A positive contribution to workplace culture
Own, reliable transport
Eligible to work in Australia
Willing to undergo a National Police Check in line with Aged Care Act requirements (arranged at no cost to you)
