Primary Purpose:

Would you like the opportunity to work directly with CFS brigades and volunteers to contribute to the operational readiness of CFS’ specialist capabilities statewide?

CFS is one of the only volunteer fire services in Australia with a hazardous materials (HazMat) response capability and responsibility.

The Technical Operations Officer plays a key role in ensuring that CFS’ HazMat brigades are equipped and ready to respond to hazardous materials emergencies across the state and then supporting those operations in the field when they occur.

This is a role, that makes a real difference to CFS volunteers and the response they provide to their community.

Specifically, the Technical Operations Officer will:

• Coordinate and oversee the allocation, delivery, testing, and maintenance of Chemical Protective Clothing, atmospheric monitoring and CBRN detection equipment, including undertaking minor repairs and calibration in accordance with manufacturers specifications.
• Coordinate the maintenance of equipment lifecycle records and annual procurement planning activities.
• Coordinate replenishment of operational equipment and consumables post-incidents in accordance with lifecycle requirements.
• Coordinate statewide stowage audits for CFS specialist capabilities.
• Provide technical services and advice to support and maintain HazMat, Urban Firefighting, and Rescue operational equipment including undertaking on-call technical operations duties.
• Contribute to procurement activities for specialist and technical equipment.
• Contribute to development of training materials for specialist capabilities.
• Contribute to the development of equipment‑based training materials for specialist capabilities and deliver brigade‑level training as required.
• Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets for HazMat, Rescue, and Urban Firefighting capabilities.
• Participate in state training exercises and multi‑agency working groups.
• Investigate best practices in HazMat detection, monitoring and mitigation techniques and provide recommendations where required.

Essential Qualifications:

Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting Operations)

Remuneration:

CFS3
$86,478 - $94,382
