Design Coordinator

McCorkell Constructions has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Design Coordinator to join our Melbourne team. Architects with 3-5 years of post-graduate experience, looking for a change from their conventional design/project role are encouraged to apply! With offices in Melbourne, we employ a team of over 70 staff delivering new buildings, refurbishments and conservation works over a range of sectors including commercial, education, sports & recreation, community, and heritage ranging from $1-40million. 

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a key role within McCorkell Constructions to drive design-motivated outcomes across the full project life cycle. As an in-house Design Coordinator, you will combine your keen eye and strong knowledge of design principles and techniques to ensure efficient design development and completion. You will be excited by the shift of seeing project challenges through the builder’s lens and resolving design issues with your constructive solutions-driven attitude. 

The role requires positive stakeholder, consultant and internal team engagement. Working with all levels of people, this role necessitates strong written and verbal communication for clear action and outcomes. 

You will be mentored in the role by a senior design manager, herself previously a senior project architect with some of Victoria’s most prestigious architecture firms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• End-to-end project oversight and engagement, from initial design development and tendering, through to project delivery. 

• Representing McCorkell as a point of contact in relation to design, and design-impacted matters. 

• Working to the design program to establish consultant team and design deliverables. 

• Design coordination and review against compliance and PPR requirements

• Closing out building permit checklists and obtaining staged building permits

• BIM coordination, review and clash detection

• Review of shop drawings

• Ongoing review and assessment of the risks, opportunities and interventions required for improving construction outcomes.

ABOUT YOU
You are a highly motivated Architect with 3-5 years of post-graduate experience with great organisational skills. You will have design development, and delivery side experience will be looked upon favourably. With your holistic approach, you will develop the ability to balance the complexity of large-scale projects and conflicting project priorities to support successful risk management outcomes. With a keen eye for detail, and a recognition of critical path activities and deliverables, with the mentorship of our senior design manager you will develop to be confident in the review and coordination of documentation and consultant deliverables. A clear and concise communicator, you are motivated to support the project from the builder’s side. 

Additionally, evidence of the following skills and attributes are needed:

• Tertiary qualification in Architecture or related degree with the equivalent knowledge and skills.

• Demonstrated experience delivering institutional projects between $5-40million construction value (Education, Sports & Recreation, Community, Civic & Commercial).

• Strong technical skills et and understanding of compliance requirements

• Expertise in problem-solving design and construction solutions.
