Fibreglass Mould Technician - Team Leader

About the role

An experienced FRP / composites technician role leading and developing a Mould Maintenance Team. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring someone who can assess the condition of a mould, recognise areas requiring attention, determine the best approach, get on the tools and share their knowledge to help develop the team. The focus will be on technical expertise, training, quality, leadership and accountability.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and repair fibreglass swimming pool moulds

• Train Moulds team in inspection, repairs, laminating, glassing, gelcoat, fillers, sanding, polishing and structural rectification

• Set clear expectations, mentor employees and build accountability and pride in workmanship

• Develop people with the right attitude and capability

• Ensure preventative maintenance and repairs are completed correctly

• Maintain exceptional mould fleet condition, surface finish and accuracy to support consistently high-quality finished pools

• Help prioritise daily mould work and balance production demand with scheduled maintenance and new mould projects

• Lead by example and ensure safe work practices are followed

• Identify ways to improve mould life, repair methods, materials, processes, quality and team capability

About you

• Strong practical experience in FRP, fibreglass or composites

• Experience with mould manufacture, maintenance and repair

• Physically capable of safely performing the inherent requirements of a hands-on role, including manual handling, prolonged standing, bending, working around moulds and using hand and power tools

• Hands-on knowledge of laminating, glassing, fillers, primers, tooling gelcoats, sanding and polishing

• Knowledge of resins, catalysts, release systems and composite materials

• Ability to identify mould rework and determine the correct repair

• Strong practical problem-solving skills

• Confidence to set standards and train people

• Strong commitment to safety, quality and workmanship

• Plug or pattern-making experience would be highly regarded
