Small Engine Mechanic – Full-Time

About the role

The Small Engine Mechanic will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of a broad range of hire equipment powered by small petrol and diesel engines. The position is hands-on and requires someone who can work efficiently, diagnose faults accurately and ensure equipment is maintained to a safe and reliable standard before returning to hire.

Key responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair small petrol and diesel engines

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and fuel-system faults

• Repair and maintain equipment including generators, pumps, compactors, concrete equipment, demolition equipment, lawn and garden equipment and other general hire machinery

• Carry out preventative and scheduled maintenance

• Inspect returned equipment and identify required repairs

• Test equipment following repairs to ensure it is safe and operating correctly

• Maintain accurate service and repair records

• Identify parts and components required for repairs

• Assist with maintaining workshop cleanliness and organisation

• Follow workplace health and safety procedures

About you

• Relevant mechanical trade qualification or equivalent recognised qualification in small engines, outdoor power equipment, automotive, plant or a closely related mechanical field

• Previous experience servicing and repairing small petrol and diesel engines

• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills

• Experience working with small plant, construction equipment, hire equipment or similar machinery is highly regarded

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Good understanding of safe workshop practices

• Good communication and organisational skills

• Current Australian driver's licence or the ability to obtain one
