THE POSITION:
The Business Event and Conference Attraction Partner drives regional economic growth by bidding for and securing high-yield business events, corporate meetings, and associated conferences, and contributes to the ongoing success of Albury Wodonga's major conference and event venues. Working within the local council's tourism and economic development unit, this role positions the region as a premier business events destination through strategic marketing and collaborative industry partnerships.
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proactively generate, qualify and convert sales leads into confirmed business event bookings that deliver economic benefit to the region's venues, accommodation providers and visitor economy businesses.
- Bid Management: Research, write, and present competitive destination bids to secure regional and national conferences
- Develop and implement annual business events attraction and sales plans aligned with destination objectives. Monitor, analyse and report on lead generation, sales activity, conversion rates, delegate numbers, room nights and estimated economic impact against agreed KPIs.
- Represent Albury Wodonga at industry trade shows, exhibitions, networking events, and business event industry forums to promote the destination and generate new leads.
- Build, maintain and leverage a strong network of conference organisers, professional conference organisers (PCOs), event planners, association executives, corporate decision makers and government stakeholders to drive future business opportunities.
- Manage the Business and Conference customer relationship management (CRM) database, ensuring accurate recording of leads, opportunities, stakeholder interactions, conversion outcomes and business intelligence.
- Manage the end-to-end request for quote (RFQ) process, liaising with conference venues, accommodation providers and industry suppliers to gather proposals and develop competitive bid submissions, presentations and destination responses that secure business events and conferences for Albury Wodonga.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with conference venues, accommodation providers, hospitality businesses and industry partners. Facilitate site inspections, destination familiarisations and client visits to showcase Albury Wodonga’s business event capabilities.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry groups, state and regional tourism organisations, and stakeholders including the City of Wodonga.
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities, including partner forums, meetings and regular industry communications.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external marketing teams to develop and implement targeted business events marketing and lead generation campaigns.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities to inform strategy, destination development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
- Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Based on a 35 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity’s RDO guidelines.
- This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 35 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor.
- This position does not require you to wear a compulsory uniform, however you must follow the dress code requirements within the AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
- This position involves working in a predominantly indoor environment and using a computer is considered a core component of the role. There may be occasional visits to other work locations. The position requires an average level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake occasional physical activities, such as walking and lifting, along with general manual handling tasks as part of a normal working environment. A medical declaration will be required to be completed prior to commencement.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Tourism, Events and/or Public Relations or other related fields or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in business development, account management, conference attraction, events, tourism or a related field.
- Proven ability to identify, develop and convert leads into successful business outcomes
- Demonstrated organisational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Highly developed networking, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional reports, presentations and correspondence.
- Class C Drivers Licence - Must maintain a valid driver's licence while employed
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- Experience within the business events, conference or visitor economy sectors.
- Experience preparing bids, proposals, tenders or funding submissions.
SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of business development, sales pipeline management and customer relationship management principles.
- Experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems to manage leads, opportunities, stakeholder engagement and reporting.
- Ability to analyse sales performance data and report against KPIs.
- Experience with website Content Management System (CMS) and social media content development
