About the role
Garden City Hotel Canberra is seeking experienced Qualified Chefs to join our culinary team on a full-time or part-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary expertise within a dynamic hospitality environment located in Narrabundah, ACT. As a Qualified Chef, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional food experiences to our guests, maintaining the highest standards of food preparation, presentation and kitchen management. Your contribution will be instrumental in upholding the reputation and excellence of Garden City Hotel Canberra.
What you'll be doing
Preparing and cooking high-quality meals according to established recipes, seasonal menus and customer requirements
Maintaining strict food safety and hygiene standards in compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practices
Managing kitchen stations and ensuring efficient workflow during service periods
Plating and presenting dishes to the highest professional standards
Collaborating with kitchen team members and other departments to ensure smooth service delivery
Monitoring food stock levels and assisting with inventory management and ordering
Preparing mise en place and ensuring all ingredients are fresh and properly stored
Contributing to menu development and suggesting innovative culinary ideas
Training and mentoring junior kitchen staff as required
Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment and work areas
What we're looking for
Current, relevant cooking qualifications or recognised culinary certification
Proven experience working as a chef in a professional kitchen, ideally within a hospitality or hotel setting
Comprehensive knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and ingredient combinations
Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene standards and HACCP principles
Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
Ability to work collaboratively within a team whilst maintaining independence and initiative
Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach to service delivery
Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
A passion for quality food and commitment to culinary excellence
Previous experience in menu planning and cost control is advantageous
