Unisort Operator

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Unisort Operator to join our Onion Production team at our Virginia site. In this hands-on role, you will operate our Unitech onion grading system, ensuring onions are graded efficiently and accurately to meet production plans and quality specifications. You will play an important role in maintaining production flow, monitoring equipment performance, completing routine inspections, and supporting a safe, productive work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up the Unisort grading line ready for daily production.

• Operate and monitor onion grading equipment to maximise productivity and quality.

• Conduct pre-start and post-operational inspections of machinery and equipment.

• Perform routine line checks and accurately complete production documentation.

• Monitor product quality and ensure grading specifications are consistently achieved.

• Identify and troubleshoot minor machinery issues and escalate faults where required.

• Work closely with Team Leaders and Shift Leaders to optimise production output.

• Perform stock counts of raw product, graded product and line consumables.

• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment in accordance with company policies and food safety standards.

• Shift times (starting 5.00am and 6.00am until production finishes, which will be approximately 10 hours)

About you

• Previous experience operating machinery in a manufacturing or food processing environment

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment

• Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends or overtime as needed

• Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player

• Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and safety procedures
