About the role
Head of Athlete Development - Strength and Conditioning
Reporting to the Director of Sport, this new role will be responsible for providing guidance to lead and enhance the athletic development program at SCEGGS Darlinghurst, delivering structured, evidence-based training to support the athletic development, wellbeing and performance of all students.
This is a permanent position commencing in January 2027. Although an earlier start date may be considered for the preferred candidate. The role is full time during school terms, including before and after school sessions, and at least 6 weeks during school holiday periods throughout the year.
Working closely with sports coaches, PDHPE teachers and school staff, the successful applicant will deliver inclusive programs that cater to a wide range of abilities, from elite school athletes to students developing confidence and competence in physical fitness.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing and delivering progressive strength and conditioning programs aligned with adolescent development
Providing hands-on coaching, supervision, and fitness assessments
Collaborating with sports and PDHPE staff to support holistic development of student athletes, and provide input into school sport training programs
Creating an inclusive, positive, and motivating training environment
Managing daily operations of the new Strength and Conditioning Centre
Delivering education on nutrition, recovery, and injury prevention to students, parents and staff
Regularly assessing athlete progress, refining training protocols based on data and research, and ensuring continuous improvement.
The successful applicant will have a Bachelor of Exercise Science or equivalent qualification, as well as Level 2 Professional Australian Strength and Conditioning Association Accreditation.
You will have experience working with female athletes and be able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, students and families. In all areas, you will be highly organised, flexible, self-motivated and reliable. While prior experience working in schools may be an advantage, it is not essential. You will also be committed to the full life of the school and support its Christian ethos.
